Why we built Viraam: a pause, not a block

Thank you to everyone who voted, reviewed and supported us today. Viraam made it to #3 of the day, and we’re so grateful!

Viraam means “pause” in Hindi, so a pause was always going to be at the heart of it. Micro pauses matter in our fast-paced digital world, where it’s hard to carve out dedicated time for our well-being.

Most screen time apps block. We wanted to try something gentler. Before the apps you tend to open on autopilot, Viraam offers one slow breath and a reminder of why you wanted to slow down. Then the choice is yours: continue or close the app.

A few things we learned while building it:

A pause can feel respectful. You stay in charge, so it supports you instead of fighting you.
Words matter. The pause helps you step off autopilot, and your own words help you reconnect with yourself.
Small moments add up. Inside Viraam, you can pick any of the short mindfulness practices for mind, body and eyes, whenever you have a minute.

On Mac, Viraam gives you wellness breaks that wait until you’re out of a call, plus practices for eyes, body and mind.

Curious how you all take care of your screen time, especially the apps you open on autopilot?
